Day 4521 - Dragonflight Day 371

The Pixel 8 phone finally got shipped and I spend a bit of time setting it up.  It took me more trouble setting up Google Voice than anything else.  In between setting up the new phone, I also send as many of my characters through the 10.2 introductory content as possible, ending with the Super Bloom event.

Day 3457 - Battle for Azeroth Day 755

The screen protector for the new phone arrive, which means I can finally start working on it.  After attempts to wipe the phone failed, I had to go ahead and upgrade the toolkit (3 years old).  6 hours later, I've copied the data over and finished setting it up.

On Warcraft side, I finished up the emissary for the echos and did as many Horrific Vision as I can.

The rooting for Pixel 2 XL is finally available.  I got a couple of other test before declaring victory.  But most of the root application is working. 

With the emissary quest being Broken Shore, I just decided to concentrate on the weekly quests on Argus and the weekly Greater Invasion Point.

I spend the day farming the mount bearing rares while doing the weekly invasion point quests.  Houndmaster Kerrax was kind enough to drop his mount Vile Fiend.  This is my second fiend mount, 2 more to go.

Day 2617 - Legion Day 417

I spend a bit more time on setting up the new phone Pixel 2 XL.  Using direct connection the file copy went through a whole lot faster than I anticipated.  After another hour, the phone was done.

After a bit of testing, I finally got World of Warcraft fixed.  Turns out to be problem with with the configuration file.  Good thing the emissary quest was Army of the Light.  I got that done on all of the characters.

Day 2616 - Legion Day 416

The Pixel 2 XL arrived and I spend 2 hours trying to figure out how to use the adb and fastboot tools.  It's been a couple of weeks since I actually used this and I forgot one of the step.  Still, I managed to get the phone unlocked.

The game itself suffered a bit of lag issue.  For some reason the lag went to 6 second, which is completely unacceptable.  I did the emissary quest and call it a night.

Day 2551 - Legion Day 351

I got another one of the Falconsaur pets to prepare for the mount run.  And before I'm done with the night, I went and got M+15 done.

The replacement Nexus 6P also arrive in the same day as Android 8.0 release.  Just for the hell of it, I unlocked the phone, wipe it in the process, did the upgrade.  I then download the factory image for it and went about flashing it onto the phone.  The usual method of rooting isn't working, so I have to manually flash TWRP recovery and find a newer version of rooting utility.  Fortunately that second option works.  Thus far the battery usage is heavier than I'd like and I haven't even gotten around to setup all of the email yet, so the battery drain rate is a bit concerning.  Oh well, this phone only have to serve me a couple of more months until the next one is released.

Day 1298 - Mists of Pandarian Day 519

My mage started the day with 7 token and ended the night with 10.  Not a good night's work.  Well, I should be able to get the rest of it next week.  I'm also farming the first boss of the Siege LFR looking for that elusive trinket.  Still no luck.

Sometimes I wonder whether I should turn off the emergency broadcast for my phones.  We got not only flash flood warning, but tornado warning this morning, which seriously cuts into my sleep time.

Day 722 - Google Wallet

Google Wallet got a nice update on Wednesday whereby I can now attach most credit cards to be use in venue that accept NFC reader.  Now, I've tried to use this a number of times, but I've never done it correctly.  After watching a couple of videos, and a couple of attempts, I was able to successfully buy something from CVS.  Technology advances at work.

Day 715 - Jellybean

This past weekend, I fully upgraded my phone to 4.1.1 Jellybean.  The experience for the most part has been positive, with some noticeable oddness.  I'm still waiting for the screen shield for my Nexus 7 to actually get delivered so I can start using that tablet, which is what I'll be using away from home.  Surprisingly enough, my old tablet XOOM is also getting a Jellybean upgrade, so I'll be waiting for that.

Day 710 - Android 4.1 Jellybean

A couple of weeks ago, when Android 4.1 Jellybean was leaked out of Google I/O conference, I tried out a couple of hack version.  Unfortunately, I have to totally wipe my phone after one of the kernel turns out to be somewhat incompatible, and I cannot restore it correctly.

The source code was release recently, so I had a bit of time today to install the current crop of software.  This time around, my result is much better.  So much so, I'm thinking about using this going forward.  There is still a couple of things I'm thinking about changing, but I'm very happy with this version.

The car adopter kit came in today.  Unfortunately, it is NOT the version I want.  Verizon doesn't seemed to have the smarter version.  Well, this means I won't be able to use the phone as map for a while.

Day 494 - Galaxy Nexus Day 2

I didn't have much time to spend with the Galaxy Nexus on my first day with it.  With me trying to get around the 60 Freeway closure and getting to and from there an issue.

But I did get around with reading up on both unlocking the boot loader and rooting the phone.  As it turns out, preparation for both those task took more time and effort than the  the actual works.

Day 493 - Galaxy Nexus

Well, today is the day Verizon releases Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE version.  Naturally I went and replace my original Droid with this new phone.  What was surprising is that there was a line when we got to the store early:

We got the phone, and decided to drive down to San Gabriel to pick up some belt holsters for these phone.  San Gabriel also has Noodle King where we had lunch:

The first picture was the last picture taken by the old phone, and the picture of the noodle and fried tofu is taken with the new phone.  Mind you, I only drank some of the noodle soup.

We spend the afternoon going to and back from Rose Hills.  The oil tanker explosion near Monte Bello really messed up the traffic there.  I fear that in the future, I'll have to take really long way around it.

Day 371 - On Google Buying Motorola

When I get on my computer this morning to put in my wake up blood pressure meter (the only piece of brain work I get before hitting the web), I naturally fired up my browser and looked at Google+.  The very first thing that caught my eye is a post by Geoff Atteberry about Google buying Motorola Mobility (which includes the cell phone & the set top cable box).

The very first thing that pop into my mind is that this is a patent defense/offense move by Google.  They can afford it, and they're probably either going to spin-off the set top cable box business (as suggested by Eric Raymond in his Google+ posting) or they're going to just keep the patent and sell off the remaining cellular phone business.

Personally, in the immediate future, not much will change.  Motorola will not be integrated into Google anytime soon.  For one thing, this is the biggest thing Google have ever acquired.  For another thing, they're not going to antagonize the rest of the Android makers by playing favors.

Lets just hope that Verizon (my carrier of choice, since I bought their cell tower repeater to service my house) gets a Nexus phone.

Day 128 - Traffic

The drive back from yesterday's support group meeting is just utterly horrendous.  I got out of the meeting at 7:15 PM.  It took me 90 minutes to traverse from Cedars to 101 Freeway.  I also noticed that Google Navigation seem to be going out of its way to directing me into really weird turn.

Managed to upgrade my Droid to Android 2.2.1.  The smallish 2.2 to 2.2.1 upgrade zip refused to work on my phone, at least with the way I de-installed things.  I have to get a more complete package.  Haven't had much of opportunity to do things with it yet.

Day 56 : Head Scratching Time

After looking at various solution of hooking up my Droid phone's music output to my car (FM adopter, cassette adopter), I opted for the cheaper solution of cassette adopter. I'm already short on DC plug on the front of the car already, and the cassette adopter seemed the be easier to use while FM adopter all requires me to sacrifice a DC plug. Next car I buy will have a build in auxiliary input jack.

In Warcraft news, December 7 is the day the next expansion comes out. That means I have 2 months to get the Raptor mount before it's gone forever. Redouble the effort Dianora.

Ok, back to the number for today. I think my body is still adjusting to the my current dosage of Metformin. Prior to my doctor's visit in early September, I was taking 1000mg, 500 in the morning, 500 in the evening. My Primary Care Physician halved that dosage, and it took a while for the drug to get out of my system. Lets see if we can work this number down again.

Day 54 : Going Back to Rose Hills

Now that I'm off on-call, I can resume the duty of replacing flowers in front of my mother's urn at Rose Hills.

Before doing anything else meaningful, I spend 2.5 hours working on my cell phone, finally solving my 32GB sd card mounting issue (whenever the card is re-mounted after dismount from desktop, the phone does a soft reboot).  As it turns out, even though the phone does recognize the sd card, it isn't properly formatted.  I backed up the data on the sd card and format it while mounted the drive on my desktop.  No more soft reboot.

I also had an issue with doubletwist not re-synching my iTune library.  Finally end up buying an app call iSyncr from the Marketplace, and it does seem to do its job correctly.

I took a vendor gift water bottle (it fits better than the one I bought at store), and start drinking water religiously on my trip to Rose Hills (due to various factor, a 45 minutes drive turn into 90 minutes).  I finally get to eat the fried tofu at the noodle restaurant.  Eating it isn't as difficult as I imagine.  Just chewed the individual cube down to very very small bits.  The family have dumpling for dinner.  I have them minus the skin, which has the same kind of consistency as noodle.  Since I cannot eat noodle for a while (if ever), I opted to just eat the fillings.  Good to eat some of these things I haven't had in a while.
