I restarted my Sith Inquisitor character again, and this time, properly specced for healing. I'm also signing up to do flashpoint whenever I need a break from leveling. Doing the thing all over again, does give me some advantage, since I now know how to do some of the things properly.

Day 508 - Limitation of Using Google Plus Hangout
Last night I went on a couple of run of flashpoint (The Old Republic's version of dungeon) with one of my co-worker. As neither of us have subscription to a dedicated channel of ventrillo services, we opted using Google Plus Hangout. It works, albeit, it does have a major problem with using it for this purpose. Hangout will periodically check if you're idle, and kick you out when you are. The limit appears to be 30 minutes, which is how long the flashpoint lasted. So it's somewhat annoying that you get to the end of the run and the hangout closed out...

Day 507 - Pull Pork Sandwich
This is a make up post from yesterday:
Yesterday my I went with my co-workers to a sandwich place down by Eagle Rock. I ordered a pull pork sandwich with the understanding that I'll eat half at lunch and half at home. For some reason, I ate the bread at lunch, and that really doesn't agree with me. This is what the sandwich looked like 6 hours later:
This time, I opted not to eat the bread. Albeit, I also finished up the rest of the roast turkey from our Christmas diner... And last but not the least, I bought this home for my father:
And ate 1/8 of it. No wonder I gained 4 pounds this past week. Time to get a grip of myself.

Day 506 - Glucose Meter
A couple of weeks ago, I got this mail from my medical supply fulfillment company with coupon for a newer glucose meter. Since the machine I'm currently using had wrong kind of test strip (thus, I'm fairly positive that my readings have a low bias), I thought it was a good opportunity to rectified the situation.
I went online and went through their fulfillment forms and got the meters a couple of days later. I also inform my doctor to order me the new test strip for the new machine. Unfortunately, just as my previous order for the previous machine had a mix up, so does this machine. The test strip not only does not work, they are for a completely different generation of meter (it's a drum of test strip).
In total frustration, I dropped off the new machine (with the sample bottle of test strip) off at my doctor's office yesterday. The doctor's office call me back in the afternoon, and I wait and see if the medical supply company can actually get their act together.

Day 505 - The Conspiracy to Keep Me Awake
My co-worker was nice enough to relieve me from on-call duty early yesterday. I was all set to be on-call until today at 8AM. Unfortunately for me, I still have my cell phone set to on-call mode, which puts out alerts that's designed to awake me. Last night starting at 10PM, and every 2 hours there after, someone was dutifully updating a situation that unfortunately also include the filter word that triggers my alerts. After the third such update, I actually got around to turn it off. By then, it was only 90 minutes until my actual work day alarm woke me up. Not a good way to start my day.

Day 504 - The Old Republic Day 4
One reason why yesterday's post didn't come up until today is the simple fact that I've been spending all my time on The Old Republic. Leveling basically slowed down significantly after level 10 (when you leave the newbie planet). After the second planet, you get your own starship to go to different zone. I"m still looking for my co-worker's guild...

Or rather, Day 1.5. I spend a better part of 2 hours installing the Old Republic yesterday. In the midst of doing that, my Paladin tank finished up the Looking for Raid version of Dragon Soul raid.
Last night, I went into TOR and started creating characters in earnest. I managed to leveled a Republican Smugglers up to level 5 and went back to the Empire characters. This morning, I mainly concentrate on my Sith Inquisitor, and around dinner, I managed to get her up to level 13.
Well, now it's time to go back toWarcraft and finish up the holiday daily quests.

And so little time. This weekend is a long weekend. I've already bought The Old Republic this past Tuesday. I just haven't got the time to actually installed it. I'll probably end up running all of my toons through Dragon Soul raid in LFR, and then start playing the new game.

Day 500 - Too Thin
The other day, my father caution me against loosing too much weight. My my own estimate, I'm still on the upper end of the normal weight scale. No longer over weight, but still a bit on the heavier side. Mind you, a good 5 to 10 pound of my weight is currently tied to loose skin that requires surgery to get rid of. But I can sense what he's talking about. The medium size shirts that I bought just prior to Thanksgiving already a bit too large.
Oh, here's what I had for lunch:

Day 499 - Raid Finder
It's been 3 weeks since the release of patch 4.3. I think my characters are sufficiently geared to go to the next league, raid finder. Raid finder is similar to random heroic where you're matched with 24 other people to do a simplified raid. Amazingly enough that we actually managed to get through most of it with out issue. I trotted out Fidie, Nodame, Kasukabe, Lonchaneyjr and Kycilia in raid finder queue. Only took about 10 minutes of wait time and the result is somewhat rewrding. Right now, I'm only in it to figure out the mechanics of the fight. I'll take my tank through later in the week.

Day 498 - So Many Games So Little Time
Sorry for another late post. I'll explain in the next post what I was doing.
With the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic, I have yet another soul devouring all consuming game at my disposal. For those people in the Beta program, they could start playing in the real game 10 days prior to the actual release. For me, I have to drive down to Fry's Electronics and buy my copy, where it still sits at the corner of my room, unopened. I simply don't have the time for that yet.

After 3 weeks away from the office (technically, I did stop by on one weekend to drop off Christmas gifts and pick up training material) with 2 weeks of at home training and 1 week of vacation, I'm now back in the office. And just for kicks, I'm also back on call. So this week will be a whole less fun than last week, in which I nearly didn't get anything done, except going freezing in my house. That doesn't appears to be an issue in the climate controlled office.

My weight is still steady without much change. Just for kicks, I would like to loose half of the weight as I've been keeping track of the weight 14 months ago. Technically, I've already did that with my maximum weight of 355lb. But that number doesn't show up in the spreadsheet.

Day 493 - Galaxy Nexus
Well, today is the day Verizon releases Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE version. Naturally I went and replace my original Droid with this new phone. What was surprising is that there was a line when we got to the store early:
Something I've never seen at an Android phone event.
We got the phone, and decided to drive down to San Gabriel to pick up some belt holsters for these phone. San Gabriel also has Noodle King where we had lunch:
The first picture was the last picture taken by the old phone, and the picture of the noodle and fried tofu is taken with the new phone. Mind you, I only drank some of the noodle soup.
We spend the afternoon going to and back from Rose Hills. The oil tanker explosion near Monte Bello really messed up the traffic there. I fear that in the future, I'll have to take really long way around it.

Day 488 - Doing Stupid Thing
I just finished 2 weeks of work related training at home. After being coup up for 2 weeks at home, I decided to head out to Rose Hills early. Good thing I did that, since the traffic going there was absolutely stupid.
Speaking of stupid, I stopped by Noodle King to pick up some fried rice for the rest of the house. I also ordered this plate of saute beef with noodle. Though I did ate a good chunk of it , it is definitely not recommended for someone of my state.
To make up for my stupidity last night, I decided to up my exercise regiment this morning. I really cannot start the treadmill at 4.2MPH, but after 5 minutes of going at 4.1MPH, I was able to ramp up and complete the rest of the exercise at that speed. Back on Wednesday, I decided to do shadow boxing as a mean of keeping myself warm. Not a good idea, my shoulder socket was aching for 2 days, and only today, are they more or less normal.

Day 478 - World of Warcraft Patch 4.3
Patch 4.3 went live yesterday. Since I'm not even raiding anymore, the actual raid content is off reach for me. I did ran through all three new dungeons: End Time, which take place in a possible future where the bad guys won, Well of Eternity took place ten thousand years in the past to get a copy of Dragon Soul, Hour of Twilight, which take place now as you try to get a non-player character into safety after securing the artifact from the second dungeon.
All in all, the dungeons are well designed, not too long, and fun. I especially like the design of the final boss in End Time, where you get to reset all of your cooldown 5 times. Now that I have a taste of this on my main character (it's a bit weird tanking on my main character after almost a month away from playing her), I have to gear up the rest of my characters.

Day 473 - Black Friday 2011
As my belated post from yesterday points out, I've tried 4.1 MPH at 2° incline the entire 45 minutes yesterday without difficulty. Well, this morning, I literally have to work myself into that pace, otherwise, my left knee complaints. So I have to dial down the routine back to what I used to do, 4.0 MPH at 1° for 15 minutes, and then the same routine the rest of the way through.
I had a big lunch yesterday (vegetarian hot pot, albeit, the fish meatball kind of ruin the vegetarian spirit), and we went out to Universal Hilton for their Thanksgiving buffet. As I've mentioned before, I tends to do very badly at buffet, since my usual signal of size went out of the window. Last night was no exception. To make matter worse, I had a glass of milk just before sleeping to wash down some benefiber, with out eating lactaid. That combination really puts the pain into my digestive system.
So it's much surprise to me that I weight myself this morning and come in at 167.2lb, 0.2lb lighter than yesterday morning...

I haven't varied my breakfast for a long time. Recently, I have added some spicy cheddar cheese in addition to the rest of my usual meal. As I drove in this morning to work, I began to fee uneasiness over the breakfast. I'm not even sure I can make it through the rest of the day, or whether I should just go home.

Day 470 - Scenic Route
When I drive home from the support meeting tonight, I heard on the news radio of debris on my usual route. Now, 405 north just past 10 is always bad. Tonight, I spend 10 minutes just waiting to get onto the freeway. I search around in the Google map and found an alternative, West LA to Santa Monica to Malibu to Topanga Canyon, the scenic route.
Normally this would've been a beautiful route in the day time. But seeing that I'm tired, and my vision hasn't exactly been restored to full capacity yet, this isn't something I go out of my way to do.
Just as I turn onto Topanga Canyon Blvd I heard on the radio explaining the 4 police vehicle that raced pass me at high speed. Apparent there was a police pursuit that ended just past Topanga in Pacific Coast Highway. Fortunately for me, that particular pursuit's backup didn't reach me.
I don't particularly like driving Topanga Canyon even during the day time, due to its many twist and winding road. On the west side of the mountain, the twist isn't as dramatic. However, once I pass the summit, the twist became much more dramatic.
Since I'm typing this, obiviously I made it without incident. I won't be doing this again anytime soon.

Day 469 - 2° Incline on Treadmill
I've mentioned before that I have limited amount of time per day for exercise. I've found that doing it in the morning solves most of the problem in terms of scheduling. This also means that I really have to try to squeeze in all of my morning activities before heading out to work.
The first rule for me in terms of exercise is not to get hurt. Above all else, if I'm injured, I will not be exercising. Thus, it's with some difficulty that I try to find newer challenge as I hit new plateau. Previously on treadmill I've extended the time, ramp up the speed. At 4MPH and 45 minutes, I think I'm at my limit in so far as my knees will bear.
I've tried adding additional incline before with limited success, with me always reverting to lower intensity as not to break my fist rule. In recent days, I make another try, with the first couple of days, mixing in different incline for 5 to 10 minutes stretch, and in the last couple of days, the entire 45 minutes. Thus far, my knees, which has been my limiting factor is holding up. Perhaps this is he new challenge I can actually use.

My rogue reached level 85 this past Tuesday, and I had some gears awaiting her. At first, doing heroic with green gears and the fact that I never ran any dungeons as a rogue really made my damage low. After a while, I was able to get enough gear on her to make a difference. Now that I'm running enough dungeon to really upgrade my gears, I think I'm almost done with her. still need to run my blacksmith through a couple of heroics to get enough material to make more weapon.
Last night, the family decided to eat out at Zen Buffet. Naturally, I overate. I did concentrate on eating only protein, and sashimi is pretty much all protein.

Day 467 - Long Sleeve Polo Shirt with Pocket
I'm not sure why it's so difficult to buy something like this. Last year, I have to replace my existing stock of long sleeve polo shirts with pocket due to it being threadbare. This year, the shirts I bought last year are way too large. I look and look, and no one seemed to have it. Since I'm not on call this week, I decided to take the entire Saturday afternoon to find the shirts.
Much to my surprise the first place I went to, Macy's actually have what I wanted. I simply have to ask the clerk for 'em. And these shirts are on sale. That got the frugal side of me happy as well.

Day 464 - New Kindle
Amazon releases two different types of Kindle this week. I pre-ordered both as they'll serve different purpose for me. The first to arrive is the Kindle Fire, an rather stripped down 7" Android tablet with most of the Android features buried beneath Amazon's customization. I bought it to see what I can use it for. But mainly to watch videos for Amazon's streaming features.
The other Kindle I got is Kindle Touch, which will be the actual book reader that I'll be using, replacing my now renamed Kindle Keyboard. It felt heavier than the older version. A good deal of that is due to the shape of the new reader, which is smaller. By taking out the keyboard, it makes the screen is actually slightly bigger. This reader is also a bit lighter than the old one. It took me about an hour to get used to how to navigate around, and reloading all of my non-Amazon books (such as the ones from Baen) onto the device and group the way I want. The only negative I can think of right now is that the screen refresh feels a bit sluggish. I'll play around with it tomorrow again.

I've been trying to run the troll dungeons on my rogue for 2 days now. It's not been easy, since my gear limits what I can do. I got kicked out twice due to my low low dps, and 4 times we simply cannot finish the instance. I'm now just running my blacksmith in hope of getting materials to build better gears for the rogue. It's been slow. 4 instance, 1 orb. I need 6 more.

This past weekend, I washed my 2nd bluetooth headphone. I'm not buying a replacement until I get my next phone. No point in getting one just yet.
My rogue hits 85 yesterday. As soon as that occurs, I hearthstone back to town and put up all of the crafted items. I also head out to Mount Hyjal and participated in both the Thrall questline and the Regrowth/Molten Front quests. In all, my rogue now qualified to enter heroic dungeons. There's still more crafted items to go, but I'll live with this.

Day 460 - Coming Down the Mountain
I spend better part of last night and most of this morning leveling my rogue. Friday night saw my rogue going from level 76 to 80 staying in only 2 zones, Sholazar Basin & Icecrown. Due to the legacy gears and the guild experience bonus, I managed to do about 3/4 of these zone advancing 4 levels.
This morning, I hop onto Mount Hyjal, and got a really big shock. The legacy gears that I was using was very much not designed for the current expansion (except for the head and cloak piece). I got used to killing mob in 8 seconds or less. After a bit of struggle and some gears upgrade, I managed to get that initial burst damage coming out of stealth at the end of my current round. Just for completeness sake, I did ALL of the quest in Hyjal, and got the Coming Down the Mountain achievement. The other starting zone Vashj'ir is a bit harder. I'll eventually go back and do that as well.

For this character, I spend level 58 to 68 in Outland. Level 58-62 was spend in the starting zone, with the addition of flying mount at level 60 really speeding things up. After 62, I move onto the next zone, and spend the next 2 levels there, all the while keeping eyes out for herbs to harvest and alchemy to level. Garand is another zone I spend 2 levels in. After that, moved onto Blade's Edge Mountains, where I leveled up to 67. The final level I spend in Outland is at Netherstorm, and that's mainly for the Netherbloom that I need to level alchemy. Now that my character has learn Cold Weather Flying, I'm parking her in Northrend ready for the 12 level grind to level 80.

Day 451 - Rogue Leveling Continues
One thing about leveling a character is the immerse experience of some of the things slightly differently. This is the 8th characters I've played past level 20, and the pace really quicken after getting the mount. The pace will get even faster after getting the flying mount, but that's another 6 levels away, and I'll be two level into Outland.
In this round of leveling, I went back to the capital every 2 levels not only to pick up new spells, but to make sure I'm in the optimal zone for experience grind. This means that my leveling speed is faster than my previous attempt. Currently, I'm doing this mostly as a Subtlety rogue. For some reason, I logged out using Combat spec.

Day 446 - More Clothing Purchase Year 2
I don't like buying clothing. For one thing, I almost never find what I'm looking for, and what I'm looking isn't all that exotic. With the cloth switching coming, I figure it's time to get clothings that fits better. I've already taken cared of the pants last week, this week, I tried to address some of the other area.
I last bought newer underwear back when I'm wear waist size 40 and shirt size L. I've since shrunk beyond those sizes. So instead of fighting parking at the mall and getting into Nordstrom, I went to Nordstrom Rack across the street at the strip mall. We'll see how they fit.
In terms of T-Shirts with pocket, once again, I was looking for darker colored shirt with pocket. The only store that I know that reliably stock those are Old Navy. Unfortunately, I only found 3 shirts. Well, it beats zero.
The last thing I bought while looking for long sleeve shirts with pocket at Wal-Mart & Target. Both places' didn't have what I want, but I was able to pick up 2 pair of sweat pants for home use. It's getting cold enough that shorts at home isn't practical.
I still cannot tell whether my vision is improving or not. We'll see in 4 days.

Day 445 - Breaking Out Long Sleeves
Today is the last nominal week of October, and this year's Santa Ana wind driven heat has been a great disappointment. At least the weather feels cooler than last year. I usually switch to long sleeves shirts at the start of November, and today, I'm wearing my Friday casual pocket t-shirt, but wearing a hoodie sweatshirt due to the weather. The hoodie took cared of two problem at once, warm my body, and cover my head.
Last weekend, I decided even the size 36 pants weren't doing its job, so I broke down and bought 2 pairs of size 34 from Costco. It's been so long since I actually wear correct size pants, it's difficult for me to describe the sensation. I think size 34 is my limit, since that's about the size of my hip bones.
On the vision front, still no dramatic improvement.

The desk pushups that I did 2 days ago at the support meeting is currently making itself felt. Both of my bicep muscles are quit sore, letting me know that the pace and the amount that I did probably exceeds my current limit.

Day 442 - Adding New Exercise Routine Fails
Two days ago, I decided to add sit-up as part of exercise routine. I did about 15 of them, and I'm not even trying very hard. Today, the results are in, I'm not ready for even that amount. I guess I'll try them again, only take it even more slowly.
I don't quit remember what the temperature back last year around this time was, but it has come to a point where I'm ready to change to winter clothing and break out the heater.
Inspired by a post from Erin, here's something similar. A comparison between a year ago and recently.

My vision hasn't improved to 20/20 yet, but it's well enough that I can drive safely. Just don't ask me to go anywhere I haven't been before. The doctor actually suspend my use of both percocet and the numbing eye-drop. What I have to take instead is Prenisolone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension. Quit a mouthful, but it's basically a steroid based ophthalmic solution design to help assist my current healing and reduce swelling. The minus side is that I have to take it every 4 waking hours.

Day 441 - Lasik Recovery Day 4
I had my first follow up this morning with my ophthalmologist regarding my recovery progress. He was most please with my recovery. It would seem that massive dosage of vitamin C is helping. Although ice pack on the eye help, it also introduced weight on the eye, which is annoying. I've stop taking percocet, which I detest due to its many side effect, not to mention narcotic addiction property.
The actual procedure is call Photorefractive Keratectomy. According to the log, the actual laser time on my right eye is 40 seconds, and 53 seconds on my left. As of this morning, I feel well enough not to have to use pain medication, and the doctor have removed the non-corrective contact lenses. I can almost read the monitor without squinting...

Day 440 - End of Week 63
08-07-2010 Front |
08-07-2010 Side |

I was only slightly kidding about my appointment with agony. The lasik surgery itself went without much drama. I really didn't start feeling pain until the numbing eye drops wears off. And at the end of the first day, I got some really adverse reaction to percocet with nausea and throwing up sensation leading the charge. The second day went a bit better on the side effect front, and I was well enough that shopping trip to Costco went well, with me wearing the cover-all sun glasses. However, I'm still fighting the other side effect, and one that I'll probably not win until I get off the medication, constipation. Lets just hope that I'm well enough to get off med by Monday and I can actually read without squinting.
One thing I keep on doing even though I'm not wearing glasses is me trying to adjust them unconsciously. I find this mildly annoying and amusing.
